Navigating Empathy, Religion, and Unity: Unravelling a Complex Question

Is It Fair to Attribute a Lack of Empathy to a Religion? Exploring a Pertinent Question of Our Times

The question of whether it's justifiable to lay the blame on a religion for an individual's deficiency in empathy is a matter of great significance in today's context.

Regrettably, this is a tendency that many of us succumb to. Instead of attributing misconduct to the individual's lack of empathy, we hastily place the blame on their religion. Strikingly, this tendency is not confined to any particular religion or region; it's prevalent in countries like India, America, China, Japan, and more. This leads to the pressing question: Are we lacking education? Why do we persist in deluding ourselves and forgo critical thinking? We blindly entrust our beliefs to politicians, follow their lead, and even engage in criminal behaviour. Is this the foundation of our schooling? Does this align with the teachings of our religious texts?

What I've come to realize is that those who are most vocal about condemning other religions often lack a deep understanding of their own faith and the religious practices they follow. In today's world, unnecessary and unwarranted religious conflicts contribute to brain drain in various countries. Yet, it's important to acknowledge that this mentality isn't confined to any one nation. When attacks occur, media outlets hastily point fingers at Islamic groups, Hindu followers, Christian devotees, and so on. Why do they not straightforwardly term such acts as the global manifestation of hatred, resulting in the emergence of a new pseudo-religion—terrorism? Is it truly so challenging for them? Or perhaps their pursuit of higher TRP ratings obstructs their clarity of perspective.

It's imperative for people to grasp a fundamental truth: no religion advocates mass murder, disrespectful behaviour towards other faiths, or any form of derogatory conduct, especially towards women. If you lack familiarity with other religions, take the initiative to study their sacred texts and enlighten yourself. Simultaneously, delve into your own religious scriptures to gauge whether your practices align with the teachings. It's disheartening that, in the wake of such attacks, friendships and even religious bonds are shattered. Such inhuman actions are indefensible. Regrettably, humanity is gradually diminishing due to our own inhumane deeds. It's essential that we unite, transcending divisions, as there are numerous obstacles that demand our attention: poverty, educational deficiencies, healthcare challenges, and the need for innovative progress to advance our nation. One should not assume that if a calamity befalls your neighbour, it's destined to befall you as well. Negative forces abound, and we mustn't become enslaved by their pessimism, lest our future generations inherit the same fate.

When electing representatives, bear in mind that qualifications extend beyond mere education and work experience. Genuine qualification hinges on empathy, an ardour for development, resolute thinking, positivity, and the courage to stand against injustice.

If a better world is your aspiration for the generations to come, then it's high time to commence construction.
