The Importance of Managing Relationships: Reflections on Love, Ego, and Self-Respect
Every day, we hear news about relationships ending in disaster. Even famous celebrity couples who were once in love and married for many years have gone their separate ways. It's difficult to understand what goes wrong in a relationship after so many years of togetherness, and why couples decide to put a full stop to their love story. Unfortunately, this is also happening to common people around us who are following the same path.
While I am not a therapist or relationship expert, I believe that ego and lack of respect are the main reasons behind most failed relationships. Sometimes, we try to cover our ego with the term 'self-respect'. Decisions are made in moments of anger and frustration, without considering the future of our loved ones or the effects on them. It is important to remember that the way we behave in front of our children will influence their behavior as adults. A failed relationship not only affects two individuals, but also two families and may even last for generations.
It is in our hands to manage our relationships and avoid disastrous endings. Decisions made in the heat of the moment are often regretted later. We should think about the future of ourselves and our children before taking any drastic steps.
Some people continue their relationships despite having differences with their partner, while others end them by thinking only about themselves. I wouldn't call either of these people selfless or selfish, but rather acknowledge that everyone has their own perspective on life. No matter how big a problem you have with your partner or family members, go and talk to them directly and find a solution that benefits all involved. No one should compromise for others; everyone should compromise for themselves. Think about how you want your next generation to live and start by finding where you may have gone wrong in your relationships. Remember, relationships turn into disasters not because of one person, but because of two and the people around them.
Take some time out of your busy schedule and ask yourself, have you done any relationship disaster management for yourself or your loved ones? Don't deceive yourself; to find your true self, you need to be open-hearted and open-minded. Because your best is your own self. Every person has two kinds of qualities, one that takes them higher and another that takes them lower. You need to decide which path you want to take.
Find your own true self and manage your relationships before becoming selfless or selfish. Lead a happy life and leave positive marks for the next generation, so you don't regret anything in your old age.
Let us begin each day with a cheerful outlook and a smile. Let us try to live in peace before we rest in peace.
